Businesses Pledge Pro-Bono Work
A group of Fortune 500 companies that attended the Summit on Corporate Volunteerism started a three-year campaign to commit $1 billion in skilled volunteers and pro-bono services to the not-for-profit community.  For information,

Increase in Volunteerism
A study by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans reports that 74% of adults surveyed said they volunteered in some form during 2007.  The survey also reported that 52% of people said it was easiest to donate money, compared to 30% who said it was easiest to volunteer.  For information, www.philanthropy.com

Next Generation of Not-for-Profit Leaders
32% of respondents to a survey conducted by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Meyer Foundation, Idealist.org and CompassPoint aspire to be an executive director someday.  However, 64% of respondents had financial concerns about a career in the not-for-profit sector.  For information, www.meyerfoundation.org.

NW/BCA to Start Business Volunteers for the Arts Program
This May, Northwest Business for Culture & the Arts (NW/BCA), Portland, OR, will become the first-ever BCA affiliate to operate a Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) program, a program of the Arts & Business Council of Americans for the Arts.  NW/BCA has received grants from Meyer Memorial Trust and Nike to help launch the new program, which will provide business support and capacity-building to not-for-profit arts groups by recruiting and placing specially-trained professionals to act as pro-bono consultants for specific projects proposed by arts organizations.  For information, www.nwbca.org.
 
Casino to Include Public Art 
The MGM Mirage, Las Vegas, NV, is integrating a $40 million public arts program in the construction of a new hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.  Works by Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, and Henry Moore will headline the project which has the goal of making Las Vegas a destination for the art world.  For information

Nike Provides Pro-Bono Services for Oregon Bach Festival
