Steep Drop in Giving at the Dodge Foundation
The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation endowment endured a $90 million decline in value in 2008 which led to a $6 million drop in distributed grants. In 2009 the Dodge Foundation awarded $10.1 million in grants down from $16 million in distributed grants in 2008. In response to the recession the foundation distributed all grants in the first six months of the year to increase cash flow at the grantees organizations. Presidio Art Museum Called Off
Gap Founder and Chairman Emeritus Donald Fisher and his family have called off their plans to build a contemporary art museum at the Main Post of San Francisco’s Presidio. Despite modifying the museum's original design, planning documents received criticism from nearby residents of the Presidio, a National Historic Landmark. For information, www.sfgate.com.

The Wealthy Maintain Giving
Barclays Wealth conducted a survey of 500 high net-worth Americans and Britons on personal giving over the past 18 months. Approximately 75 percent of those surveyed said their giving had not reduced since early 2008. One in four surveyed reported that their giving levels had increased. High Charitable Giving in Kansas City
A new report has found Kansas City, MO, has outpaced the rest of the United States in terms of growth of charitable giving. Individual giving grew 128 percent from 1997–2007 as opposed to the nationwide increase of 30 percent over the same time period. Individual giving provides 70 percent of all charitable dollars in the Kansas City area while companies account for seven percent. For information, www.philanthropyjournal.org.

PNC Arts Alive Day
July 14 has been officially proclaimed PNC Arts Alive Day by the City of Philadelphia. The five-year, five million dollar initiative announced its first 23 grantees on July 14, 2009. More than 200 grant applications were received from organizations in the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey area. For information, www.pncartsalive.com.


Target Sponsors 2,200 Free Days

Adobe and The Black Eyed Peas Collaborate for the Arts
On August 1, the first of two music and multimedia youth academies opened in Redwood City, CA. The Adobe Foundation and The Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation are focusing on giving local youth access to state of the art production tools for video, dance, music, and art.
