Take Note

Creative Conversation Gathering in Richmond, VA
On November 27, Americans for the Arts and The Conference Board convened businesses leaders and artists for a discussion about how the business and arts sectors can leverage their respective resources to achieve vital industry objectives. “We understand the artistic community uses the same skills that are highly valued by business—such as creativity and the ability to communicate effectively,” notes Jonathan Spector, president and CEO of The Conference Board.  “This gathering will allow the business community to learn how artists apply these skills and find ways to leverage those same skills in a business context.” The gathering, hosted by Dominion Energy and Altria with significant support from CultureWorks, took place at Altria and at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The convening is the first in a series scheduled to take place across the country in the coming year. To learn more, visit www.AmericansForTheArts.org.

Bold Partnerships for Dallas Arts Organizations
Dallas-based AT&T is putting its business acumen to work for five financially challenged arts organizations. The corporation will provide free oversight to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Opera, AT&T Performing Arts Center, Dallas Theater Center, and Dallas Summer Musicals. AT&T is gifted, DSO chairman Blaine Nelson said, at finding “more efficient ways to operate, at reducing costs and redundancies.” He cited as one example the five groups having five separate box offices. “I see no reason,” he says, “why we can’t share one box office. Where do I think this journey will lead us?” Nelson said. “I don’t know. But the goal for all of these organizations, which mean so much to the city of Dallas economically and culturally, is to find better ways to operate. We simply have to.” Read the full article at www.pARTnershipmovement.org.

Speaking from Experience
“As an animal health and science–based company, Alltech’s support and integration of the arts in its work often surprises people. It’s unexpected. Yet, for us, it traces back to three fundamentals—illustrating our story, investing globally in the life and culture of local communities, and, most importantly, inspiring people.” —Dr. Pearse Lyons, President and Founder, Alltech, Inc.
