Giving Reduced in 2009
According to the Corporate Giving Standard survey, conducted by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, median total giving from companies fell to $26.30 million in 2009 from a high of $32.91 million in 2007. However, aggregate total giving from 95 companies who responded over the past four years rose by seven percent. For information, www.corporatephilanthropy.org.

Nonprofits Experience an Increase in Revenue
According to The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, overall revenue of nonprofit organizations being tracked increased 12.1 percent for the three months ending April 2010 compared to the same period in 2009. The new index reports revenue trends of 1,400 nonprofit organizations of all sizes and types on a monthly basis. For information, www.blackbaud.com.

Influx of Visitors at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
With the closing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fiscal year, attendance was reported to be at its highest since 2001. The museum reached 5.24 million visitors for the 2010 fiscal year. This marks the first year since 2001 that attendance exceeded five million visitors. Thomas Campbell, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said this number “sends a signal about the enduring importance of culture and cultural institutions to the public, especially during this period of recession.” For information, www.crainsnewyork.com.

Keds Partners with the Whitney
Keds, the American footwear company, is sponsoring the Whitney Museum of American Art’s summer season. In honor of this partnership, Keds is launching the KedsWhitney Collection designed by artists including Jenny Holzer, Laura Owens, and Sarah Crowner. The KedsWhitney Collection will be sold at Bloomingdale’s stores nationwide and on bloomingdales.com and keds.com. CareFusion Supports Jazz Nationwide

CareFusion, a global medical device company, spent its entire year’s marketing budget to sponsor three major jazz festivals this summer: CareFusion Jazz Festival New York, CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island, and Chicago Jazz Festival presented by CareFusion. The decision to sponsor jazz festivals came about when looking for ways to get brand recognition. David Schlotterbeck, chief executive of CareFusion, said, “We did a lot of research on jazz and connected a lot of dots to get to the conclusion this would have a significant impact among our customer base, and it really has. Toshiba Lights Up the Louvre
Toshiba Corporation is partnering with the Louvre Museum in the museum’s lighting renovation project. Toshiba will support lighting renovations in some of the museums most popular spaces including the Pyramids, the Napoleon Court, and the Cour Carrée with their own industry leading, eco-friendly LED lighting systems.
