On May 7, Americans for the Arts attended a STEAM Assembly in New York City hosted by VH1 Save the Music. The panel of speakers included Aetna’s Senior Director of Community Relations & Urban Marketing Miguel Centeno who explained why a healthcare company invests time and money to ensure that the arts remain part of the curriculum. Bank of America Creates Treasure from Trash
As a part of Bank of America's Recycle Now campaign for employees, the company recently partnered with the nonprofit organization chashama to showcase chandeliers made of recyclables that were found in the trash cans around Bank of America's office at One Bryant Park. Read more.

Applied Materials: Innovation & Creativity Meet Social Responsibility
Applied Materials’ involvement with the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art was featured in a recent Americans for the Arts report on Corporate Social Responsibility & the Arts. The 2015 BCA 10: Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America
Presented every year by the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA), a division of Americans for the Arts, the BCA 10 awards honor 10 U.S. companies for their exceptional commitment to the arts. The awards will be celebrated on October 6, 2015 at a gala presentation and dinner in New York City. The 2015 BCA 10 honorees are Ameriprise Financial; AutoZone, Inc.; BNY Mellon; Corning Incorporated; GE’s FirstBuild; NV Energy and the NV Energy Foundation; Prospective Inc.; Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods; The Trust Company of Kansas; and U.S. Bank. In addition, Jorge Pérez, Chairman of The Related Group, will be presented with the 2015 BCA Leadership Award and Duke Energy will be presented with the 2015 BCA Hall of Fame Award. Shelagh Mahoney Joins Business Committee for the Arts Executive Board
Shelagh Mahoney, CEO and owner of Eastern Salt Company, Inc., Eastern Minerals, Inc., and Atlantic Salt, Inc. (a 2013 BCA 10 honoree), has joined the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA) Executive Board. The BCA Executive Board works to ensure that the arts flourish in America by encouraging, inspiring, and stimulating businesses to support the arts in the workplace, in education, and in the community. Local Arts Agency Census
Americans for the Arts has launched the data collection effort for the 2015 Local Arts Agency (LAA) Census. This comprehensive survey, in partnership with the National Endowment of the Arts, is designed to benchmark the financial health and programmatic trends of the nation’s 5,000 local arts agencies and the communities they serve. Americans for the Arts encourages all local arts agencies to participate. Read more.

Arts & Business Council of New York’s Diversity in Arts Leadership Internship Program
The Arts & Business Council of New York announced the commencement—and new name—of the Diversity in Arts Leadership internship program. The distinguished summer program places 12 students from diverse backgrounds at host arts organizations throughout New York City and matches students with business mentors who guide their personal and professional growth throughout the summer. Biotech Bands Battle It Out in Boston
The third annual Battle of the Biotech Bands, hosted by the Arts & Business Council of Boston, took place at Boston’s Royale Nightclub on May 20. The event features bands associated with Boston-based biotech companies that compete to raise money for charity. “The Battle of the Biotech Bands is truly a unique event that brings together individuals from across the building and life science spectrum-–a networking opportunity that doesn’t feel like you’re networking,” said Carly Bassett, Co-Chair, Battle of the Biotech Bands. Americans for the Arts Announces Leadership Award Recipients
Americans for the Arts has announced the recipients of the 2015 Americans for the Arts Annual Leadership Awards, which recognize the achievements of individuals and organizations committed to enriching their community through the arts. This year’s recipients include Jeff Hawthorne, Director of Community Engagement for the Regional Arts & Culture Council, in Portland, OR, who will be presented with the Michael Newton Award. The award recognizes an individual for his or her innovation in developing private sector partnerships for the arts. Read more.

Cultural Tourism: Writing Miami’s Next Chapter
The Arts & Business Council of Miami (A&BC Miami) and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau recently hosted the 11th Annual Breakfast with the Arts and Hospitality Industry. The event takes an innovative look into how hospitality companies can attract and engage with the arts to build profitable partnerships that enhance Miami’s reputation as a growing destination for cultural tourism. New Creative Industries Report: Putting the Data to Work with Businesses
Americans for the Arts’ recently released the latest tool-kit for arts groups on the pARTnership Movement website—Creative Industries Reports: Putting the Data to Work with Businesses—which looks at the best way to disseminate Creative Industries report data to the business community. Our Creative Industries reports provide a research-based approach to understanding the scope and economic importance of the arts in America. They include data on both non- and for-profit entities. The Benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility: A New Report
Involvement with corporate social responsibility (CSR) is on the rise among leading corporations, according to a new report by Business in the Community (BITC), which surveyed 800 global and UK based businesses. Ninety-nine percent of senior management in the companies surveyed incorporate CSR into business strategy, product development, and investment decisions (up from 65 percent in 2004). Read more.

Which Companies Match Gifts Most?
According to Double the Donation, a firm that advises nonprofits and companies regarding matching gifts programs, about 65 percent of Fortune 500 companies match employee donations. But the success of a matching program depends on employee participation. Double the Donation recently analyzed data compiled from the Corporate Giving Survey conducted by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. Their analysis provides interesting information regarding the discrepancy in employee participation rates. Read more.
