As a field, we have come to understand, as articulated in the recently published A Shared Endeavor document, that Teaching Artists are a vital part of our arts education ecosystem.  To this point we have invited 25 leaders in the field, throughout the ecosystem, to discuss the challenges, opportunities and best practices of teaching artists in the field of arts education.

As there are so many angles to discuss on this broad topic, we have clustered the posts in related areas of interest. Throughout the week we will cover the history of the role that teaching artists play in the field to best and most innovative practices for both teaching artists and organizations that work with teaching artists. See the schedule below!

Monday: The role of teaching artists in the field

We will begin with the thoughts of some leaders in arena of Teaching Artists and their opinions on the implementation of the name “teaching artists” to the professionalization in the job in public school classrooms.

Tuesday: The convergence of arts education and other subjects

We continue with exploring the space that teaching artists can occupy with the implementation of arts education as it coincides with other topics like science or intergenerational collaboration.

Wednesday: Best practices for organizations working with Teaching Artists

Leaders of organizations offer their advice and examples of best practice for institutions working with teaching artists ranging from good business models to learning grit.

Thursday: Best practices for teaching artists working in arts education

Well-seasoned teaching artists offer their advice and examples of best practice to fellow teaching artists about professional development and taking action.

Friday: Progressive examples of Teaching Artists in the field

Lastly, we explore some progressive (and some quirky) examples of teaching artistry at its finest!
