Originally from California, Gretchen Coombs writes about socially engaged art and design practices in the US, the UK, and Australia. With a PhD in social and cultural anthropology and a MA in visual criticism, Gretchen’s writing incorporates ethnographic methods to offer insight into the complexity of projects that engage diverse communities. She runs writing workshops nationally and internationally, most recently at the 2016 Creative Time Summit in Washington, DC.  Gretchen is the Assistant Editor for Art & the Public Sphere and teaches visual arts at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.
