R. Scot Hockman is the Education Associate for the Visual and Performing Arts at the South Carolina Department of Education. Before working at the SCDE he taught art for 26 years at Irmo Middle School in Columbia. He is a former chair of the South Carolina Art Education Association, South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education, and a former member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network (KCAAEN) Leadership Committee. He has presented workshops for American Evaluation Association, International Baccalaureate North America, National Association for Gifted Children, National Art Education Association, National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and KCAAEN. He is a recipient of the SC Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Teacher of the Year Award and in 2003, he was recognized by the National Art Education Association as the Middle Level Art Educator of the Year. In addition, he is the recipient of the 2012 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Awards for the Arts. Currently, Scot is working with the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards as a writer of the first generation Media Arts Standards. He consults on topics that include arts integration, arts literacy, STEAM, Common Core State Standards, and grant writing.
