NCCMS Holiday Community Outreach Concert

Saturday, December 20, 2014 - 7:00pm - 09:00pm

East Granby Community Center
Event Description

The Northern Connecticut Community Music School (NCCMS) is hosting its 1st Annual Community Outreach Concert on Saturday, December 20, 2014, 7 PM at the East Granby Community Center, 20 Center St, East Granby, CT. Take time out of your busy schedule to come relax and celebrate the holiday season with us by listening to wonderful music performed by musicians from your community.
NCCMS, formerly known as Sound Crossing Studio, was founded by Music Director, Amy Cele, 7 years ago. Although this is the 1st Community Outreach Concert under our new name, the school has done this for a number of years to benefit a local community organization. A suggested donation of $5 and/or a non-perishable food item is requested. All proceeds and food donations from this year’s concert will to benefit the Friend to Friend Food Pantry of East Granby, CT.
This holiday program consist of performances by the Northern Connecticut Community String Orchestra (NCCSO), Sound & Silence, Suzuki students and individual performances. NCCSO is a multi-generational string ensemble in its 4th year under the direction of James Hasspacher. In an orchestra, musicians learn how to work together in their sections as well as within the greater ensemble to produce a cohesive sound. This ensemble provides emerging players a foundational orchestra experience, while allowing more seasoned players to deepen their ensemble and performance skills. The mission of the NCCSO is to offer students of all ages, exceptional music training, to motivate young musicians in the region, and to enrich cultural life in the area.
Sound and Silence, under the direction of Dan Lis, is a truly unique student performance group in that it engages students according to their musical interests. Covering a wide variety of genres, Sound & Silence members work to build tight and precise ensemble skills while practicing and performing music popular with today’s youth. This group is open to all vocal and instrumental students age 13 through and up.
The Vivace Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Lani Bortfeld, serves as a supplemental chamber group for Suzuki string players. Through in depth study of chamber music students develop essential ensemble skills and explore music both within and outside of the Suzuki repertoire.
Suzuki students will perform, demonstrating this unique method of learning an instrument. The basis behind the Suzuki method is that all children naturally learn to speak their own language. Music is its own language as well. This method is taught using repetition, through listening first, concentrating on tone quality. Reading music comes later. Parent involvement is also a large part of the process and success of a Suzuki player.
Located at 143 Bridge St, East Windsor, NCCMS offers private lessons (strings, vocal, piano and guitar), music classes, ensembles and performance opportunities to students of all ages. Our teachers are professionally trained musicians, with a broad range of experience. NCCMS is one of the few schools in the area offering instruction in the Suzuki method. Where so many string programs have been cut over the years in public schools, our programs help fill that void, offering students a wonderful opportunity to learn a musical instrument and be a part of an ensemble. Our goal is to give our students the best possible music training. Our purpose is to help our students to grow and develop as individuals. We welcome prospective
students and families to come in, observe a lesson and meet our teachers (please call first). For anyone interested in taking lessons or playing in an ensemble, classes resume in early January 2015.
The Dec 20th concert is open to the public. The facility is handicapped accessible with plenty of parking. No tickets necessary. For more info, see our website www.nccms.org or contact NCCMS 860-758-7707.
