Youth Apprenticeship in the Arts
This publication is essentially a program model outlining a step-by-step approach to creating, planning, implementing and evaluating a youth apprenticeship program in the arts. This model can be adapted to all arts disciplines, missions, goals and methodologies. The steps include program inception, with descriptions of program vision, mission, goals and objectives; planning - budget, fundraising and partnerships, program structure and daily schedule, curriculum and methodology, staff and apprentice recruitment and hiring, training: implementation, with sections on roles, responsibilities and boundaries, meetings and dialogue, conflict and consensus, stress and gear shifting; evaluation and assessment - apprentice assessments, program and partnership evaluations, documentation and final reports.
