The 2019 Nancy Hanks Lecturer is the first Latinx performer to be honored by all five major awards

How does the first Latinx performer to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award continue to top her own accomplishments? By earning a Peabody Career Achievement Award, of course!

Recently, Rita Moreno took the stage at Americans for the Arts’ 32nd Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy. An advocate for the arts, Moreno shared her experience in the arts field and the ways in which it has changed her life. The following morning, she joined other arts advocates at the National Arts Action Summit on Capitol Hill for Arts Advocacy Day and spoke with members of Congress on the importance of funding for the arts. As Moreno said, “The arts build a community with a capital C and it rhymes with D and that stands for dough.”
